Ecasound versions 2.1dev7 have a bug that prevents use of .wav files on
big-endian machines like powerpc.

Hmm, this could also be a bug that only occurs on big-endian machines with
ecasound+libaudiofile. What error do you get when you issue:

ecasound -i somefile.aiff -o null
