Well, it's not very true, as I understand it, the only reason why you don't
see xruns when using OSS is because it has no mechanism to report them. :(

Well, it depends what model of SbLive you are recording with. I personally
just ensure that the volume is properly adjusted and that the capture switch
is turned on and the level just high enough to record without clipping. If
you want to see my asound.conf I can mail it to you off-list but you'd be
surprised how few settings I have modified actually. (I haven't dared
experiment with the routing stuff yet.)

For real time matters I also suggest that you disable internal buffering
(-z:nointbuf) I found it to improve stability greatly at times...
