If the output is mp3, it is LAME that would need to
append. Looks like neither LAME nor Ecasound have
an append mode. I think that is related to the file
format. WAV and and mp3 files requires a header.

If the output is a local file, I would receive the mp3s
separately, and do all your mixing and effects processing
locally. Then you don't have to worry about synchronizing
with the server hosting the mp3 files.
