The problem is Qt/GTK+ bloatware. If I do this with X
windows, I need Rosegarden4 or MuSE, jackd, software
synths with soundfonts, TK-707 or Hydrogen . . .

I am not complaining about those programs, they are
excellent. My computer just doesn't meet the modern
hardware requirements to make it all usable when they
are all running: AMD K7 500Mhz CPU, 768 MB RAM, AGP
VooDoo 3D video. That is why I seek non-gui
alternatives.
