You need to be able to *create* them from the command line? If that is
the case I would look at csound and/or common music ( or common lisp
music ) which have many good tools for command line scoring ( score
language, scot, cmask, pmask, many others I have not explored ). If the
intruments need to receive their data in the form of real time midi
ouput you can either make csound instruments that output midi or use one
of the csound-to-midi score converters along with any midi player.
