Hi all!

At first: thank you Kai and Junichi for your tips concernig the mixer
settings, now I finally managed to do multitrack-recording without the
monitortrack mixing into the new one...

But now the other stuff:

As promised, (or threatened ... :) I made some more trials with ecasignalview,
and I still cannot figure out, what's going on .. Here are I the results
(/dev/dsp1 or alsa,emu10k1 is the used sound device)

1) $> ecasignalview alsa,emu10k1 test.raw

gives
Using audio format -f:s16_le,2,44100
Setting up 2 separate channels for analysis.

(eca-control) ERROR: Connecting chainsetup failed: "Enabling chainsetup:
AUDIOIO-ALSA: Unable to open ALSA--device for capture; error: Device or
resource busy"

---
Unable to start processing. Exiting...

However, $> ecasound -i:alsa,emu10k1 ...etc... works just fine

2) $> ecasignalview -i:alsa,emu10k1 -o:test.raw

starts up, but the signal isn't recognized

3) $> ecasignalview /dev/dsp1 test.raw

starts up and the signal is recognized, but volume values for left and right add up continously (cumulative mode?, although no -c specified)

4) $> ecasignalview -i:/dev/dsp1 -o:test.raw

starts up, but the signal isn't recognized

Version: ecasound 2.2.1, on Suse Linux 8.1, Kernel 2.4.19 alsa-version: 090rc3

I believe that it is mainly an alsa-problem, has anyone made similar observations? I remember Hans-Georg Fischer mail (last Saturday) when he reported problems with alsa-drivers which don't appear when using OSS.

Probably the reason is the opening of the 2 separate channels for analysis ??? At least I remember getting device opening failure messages when specifying 4-channel files when working with ecasound, too, so maybe the alsa driver for my card doesn't accept anything with more than 2 channels...

The other thing however is, that ecasignalview always runs in cumulative mode, although no -c option was given.

It's a bit difficult to grasp what's going on as I don't really know how ecasignalview behaves normally, when all's well. (E.g I once read something about ascii-bar graphics, but I don't see any either...) so long Carsten
