Ecasound tried to set sampling rate to 44100, but the device didn't
support that and set it to 22050 instead. If this only happens for one
direction (either playback or capture), this will mean trouble for
full-duplex operation.

Or a low-level driver problem. How about simple "ecasound -i /dev/dsp -o
/dev/dsp"? Or, "ecasound -sr:22050 -f:16,2,22050 -i /dev/dsp -o /dev/dsp"?
