Subject: [ecasound] newbie question: problem using stdin as input

Hi,
I'm new to ecasound, so please excuse if the question is redundant.
Trying to pipe sound to ecasound as follows:
cat out.raw | ecasound -f:16,2,16000 -i:stdin
produces the error message
ERROR: [ECA-FILEIO] : "unable to open file stdin in mode "rb"."
I can't find any hint in the documentation as to what the problem is, or
what mode "rb" might be. Increasing priority (-r) or altering
buffersize (-b:2048) don't help matters. Am I missing something simple
here? I have a binary rpm distribution on a RH6.1 system with OSS
drivers.
Assuming this can be cleared up, does audio data piped into a chain have
to be raw format, or are wav or (better) au formats acceptable?
Any help appreciated. Please respond to sender as I do not (yet)
subscribe.
Regards
fred
