I think this has to do with what I ran into recently. I was trying to
run ecasound from a tcl/tk script by clicking an icon on my desktop and
it wouldn't work (I think ecasound would exit immediately). But when I
ran the tcl/tk script from a shell, it ran fine.

I had to set the TERM variable. I did a lot of googling to find out how
to set it correctly, but didn't get any specific details so I just set
TERM to 'linux' (without the quotes) and hope that will suffice when
running my program from system to system. It works fine on my system.

If this works, and you find more info on how to properly set TERM, let
me know
