[ecasound] Working with multiple engines

Hi,

Do people ever use a computer soundcard for mixing or
effects processing in a live situation where latency is an
issue? Or is it due to abundance of hardware, pretty much
everyone has a mixer who wants one?

A session or performance may involve mixer, playback and
recording duties. It seems clear that to implement those
functions with Ecasound would require more than one process.

An example would be playing a WAV file while routes
implemenenting the mixer are already running on the engine.
You don't want to have to bring down the mixer, or interrupt
a playback program already in progress, in order to
reconfigure the engine.

Perhaps there are other use-cases to have these abilities
concurrently.

So, I wonder, of those who already use Ecasound, would you
have interest in or a use-case for a system that would
manage the configuration, routing, effects and life-cycle of
multiple ecasound processes?

Cheers,

Joel
