It is a 64-bit system.

Good to know. AFAIK, the package is ready-to-go, once the
higher-ups give their okay.

It will appear in "unstable", which many people use, and
from which Ubuntu draws a lot of their packages.

Squeeze, the new Debian stable, will be released soon,
with an older (but still modern) ecasound, 2.7.0.
