hmm, sounds like trouble with ALSA. Can you reproduce the problem without
ALSA, for example with:

ecasound -i foo.wav -o rtnull

... then try to kill this process. The errors indicate that the engine
thread has not exited cleanly after killall, and the control thread prints
out the warnings you've in your bug report (it notices that the engine is
still running even though it has been instructed to exit).

So probably the soundcard has stuck, and the engine thread is blocking on
reading/writing to the soundcard. "killall -9 ecasound" should still work,
but it's still a bug of course.

But, but, if same happens with 'rtnull', then it's something else (most
probably a bug in ecasound).
