BTW- This still goes unsolved for me, to demonstrate #2 I tried
flacing a wav that ecasound made and I got the following:

shapeshifter new_wavs # flac -8
2005-11-06_301092000_howard-stern-channel-100.wav

flac 1.1.2, Copyright (C) 2000,2001,2002,2003,2004,2005 Josh Coalson
flac comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. This is free software, and you are
welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions. Type `flac' for details.

options: -P 4096 -b 4608 -m -l 12 -e -q 0 -r 0,6
x.wav: WARNING: skipping unknown sub-chunk ''
flac: encode.c:844: flac__encode_wav: Assertion `skip<=2147483647L' failed.
Aborted

The ecasound arguments I use on this are:
ecasound_debug -r -i alsahw,0,0 -z:db,dbsize -t:15800 -o $CURRENT_FILE

It refuses to play with aplay, (actually anything using libaudiofile),
although it exits with a 0 error code, so it _seems_ fine.

oggenc encodes it just fine, then it can play.

If anyone can do any kind of analysis on this file I have put it on my site:
http://68.111.224.150:8080/~sbh/c100.wav

Any further help I could possibly be please don't hesitate to contact me.

thanks,
avuton
