[ecasound] Reducing the run time

Hi All,
   What are the ways to reduce the run time of the
ecasound when I am mixing a lot of files. I am running
it on a Linux machine, currently I don't have root
privileges. But any suggestions will be welcome assuming I obtain
the 'root' status.
