I just committed a patch from Sean Bolton that includes the following...

xx082004 (v2.3.4) -** stable release **-
        - note: verified to compile ok ok MacOS X 10.3.2 [smbolton]
        - fixed: bugs in .wav, .cdr, JACK code, and in internal sample
                 conversion routines that occur on big-endian
                 machines [smbolton]

... in other words this will also help people running Ecasound on
PPC-Linux and other bigendian-but-not-MacOS machines.

I put a snapshot tar.gz with these changes at:
