Subject: noise reduction possibilities?

Just wondering what there is to register and possibly do automatic noise
reduction.
I've got 3 Osprey Bt878 pci cards that I'll be pulling taped voice from. I'm
setting up a system that hopefully will automatically pull stereo sound,
downmix to mono, do noise reduction and allow the "user" (trained office
monkey) to specify the name of the mp3 which I'll need to encode as 32kbit
mp3 at 44khz. If at all possible, I'd like to do as much processing realtime
as I can. Having to do post-processing will basically throw a wrench in the
works. I'm running alsa 1.0, kernel 2.6 and already have an idea how to get
everything working, I'm just confused by the documentation and a little
unsure how to proceed.
