hi..

I know this may indeed be the 'wrong' list for this but I'm not sure
where to start..I am using the yamaha onboard YMF-740 chip...I am
starting to learn to program and am starting ( along with other places
of course <G> out ( I enjoy the game and am making some interesting
modifications ie: MOD'ing ) messing around with quake3..my audio card
works fine in windows ( no longer installed ) but in linux quake3 gives
me this error:
( games works fine just no sound)
---------
'your soundcard can not do this'

so...I posted to planetquake and got this reply:

Assuming the Q3 initialisation is similar to the Q2, you get the message
"Sorry but your soundcard can't do this" when the ioctl on
SNDCTL_DSP_GETCAPS returns a set of
                        capabilities that does not include
DSP_CAP_TRIGGER and DSP_CAP_MMAP - ie, it needs to support triggers
(whatever they are) and memory mapping. Presumably your
soundcard is stating that it does not support
these, possibly incorrectly (because the driver does not currently
support it).

In Windows Q3 will use DirectSound, which will
provide the functionality that Q3 needs on lower spec'd soundcards, so
its possible that windows doesnt need these capabilities (this is
an example of where DirectX comes in handy...)
--------------------------------
------------------------------

so question is: can anyone assist me with getting this working?

or at least direct me......:)

thx mucho
lee
