You need a newer ALSA versions. Ecasound development series
(2.1dev) closely follows ALSA 0.9 development. Changes made to ALSA's
CVS-tree are made asap to ecasound's CVS-tree. In this case the location
of asoundlib.h was changed in 0.9.0beta8 (if I remember right). All
previous versions of ALSA installed it to /usr/include/sys/asoundlib.h,
but the recent versions install it to /usr/include/alsa/asoundlib.h
