Thanks for the response. I looked at the ALSA site again and will post
a message over there.

I have used -eca, but I had problems with the fact that it pushes the
overall gain down post compression and I then needed to gain it back
up. Getting the correct gain increase without clipping was tricky.

I just started playing with the compressor in LADSPA CMT and it's not as
good but I don't have to ride the output gain. Could be that I just
did not get the -eca settings right.

A real leveler would be fantastic and probably not that hard to do based
on the same feedback that a compressor works from. If you try and set
up the compressor as a leveler, you have to push the high gain audio
down so far, that it really affects it's fidelity.

If I wasn't primarily a perl coder I would give it a shot.
