Ok, this is a known issue with 2.0.2 and the very latest ALSA
versions. There was a thread about it here on ecasound-list:

Basicly there was a change in ALSA relating to dynamic loading of
ALSA-support, which broke ecasound 2.0.2's ALSA-support. Either
recompile ecasound with the patch (see the above thread),
use the CVS-version or wait for 2.0.3...
