it is weird indeed, but i think i might have to look into alsa more then
ecasound for this one. i'm using the cvs version of alsa too now, it still
doesn't work. when i use "alsa,hw:0,0,0" however, i get different errors:

- [ Chainsetup/Enabling audio inputs ] -------------------------------------
(audioio-types/buffered) alsa: Setting buffer size [1024,44100].
(audioio-types/buffered) alsa: Set buffer size [1024].
(audioio-alsa3) open
(audioio-alsa3) set_audio_format_params
(audioio-alsa3) fill_and_set_hw_params
(audioio-alsa3) Using interleaved stream format.

not supported."

so i tried to specify it -f:s32_le,2,96600, but then:

(audioio-alsa3) open

2 is out of range!"

maybe it's because i don't fully understand how to setup my new Midiman
Audiophile 24/96, it only acceps s32_le and i tried all kinds of channel
counts, but they are all out of range, even 0 or 1. i'll subscribe to
alsa-dev again and look for some hints there...
