Really, ecasound already handles everything but file type
quite well. I suggest that ecasound read the first four
bytes of the file, and set the type by that. In the case
of output, or the need for an override, then there would
be a flag external to -i and -o, so that you might have:
ecasound -i:wave_file_without_extension -w -o:stdout
the 'something_very_long' that you suggest, is already
covered with the -f flag.
