If you're wondering why I've not been answering ecasound-related mails,
you should blame the Finnish summer! :) It's just too damn hot at the
moment to do anything useful. Oh well, luckily (?) while the summers here
are quite nice, they won't last for long. ;)

But, but, lots of interesting things have happened during the last few
weeks. We have the perl ECI module, Junichi's new recording app, the
new OO python interface to ECI, ecalength, etc, etc .. I will get back
to these sooner or later (some of them will appear in ecasound 2.0.2,
while I'll add news items about the others to eca.cx's main page).

As a completely separate issue, I've recently received lots of mails
reporting build problems under various different Linux distros. Now I've
complained about this before, and I'll complain again. ;) It's just
becoming too damn difficult to support all different flavors of Linux
distros. Any ideas how to improve this situation?

I'm currently building the ecasound rpm-packages on a Redhat 6.0 box
(updated to match 6.2). I've tried very hard to not install any packages
that would affect the ecasound distribution packages (not updated my gcc,
Qt, libc; still using older rpm 3.x, etc, etc). But this doesn't seem to
be enough. For instance, the binaries probably won't work with Redhat 7.x
(and all distros based on it), because it comes with uncompatible C++
compiler (gcc 2.96 + related libraries)... so you have to recompile the
packages.

Now if nothing else, I'd really appreciate if you could send me patches
(or just instructions, list of changes, etc), to fix compatibility
problems. Ie. if you had problems with installing/running/building some
ecasound-based app, and got it to work after some changes, send a short
description of what you did (and no, "I edited the configuration scripts"
is not enough ;)). Otherwise I have little chance of correcting the
problems, because I only have my old Redhat-boxes (+ one debian box as my
router) for testing.
