I am convinced that it probably is an input/output buffer sync issue.
Perhaps the driver's perception of the current input or output fragment
is getting fouled. Most of the time, just restarting ecasound does clear
the problem. I did experience it rather persistantly one time though. In
that case it was causing over/underruns at regular intervals though. I
even unloaded the ALSA drivers and it still persisted. It stopped doing
that eventually. The clicking problem also seems to subside if left long
enough, suggesting that it gets back in sync.
