Greetings:

I'm learning my way around ecasound now, using both the command-line and
Qt versions. My sound system consists of the ALSA 0.5.9.b package for a
SBLive Value. Generally, things work great, but I do have some
questions/observations.

  Consider this command sequence:

qtecasound -b 256 -t:l -a:1,2,3 -a:all -o:alsa,0,0 \
-a:1 -i JC-In_A_Landscape.wav -ef3:1000,1.0,1.0 -kos:1,100,3000,0,0 \
      -kx -km:4,0,6,0,0 \
-a:2 -i JC-She_Is_Asleep.wav -efl:500 -km:1,500,1500,2,0 \
-a:3 -i JC-2_Pastorales.wav -etr:100,0,65 -km:1,100,500,7,0

  (Sorry about the line breaks)

When entered at the prompt it works entirely as it should. However, when
I open it in the Setup Session editor it looks like this:

-b:256 -sr:44100 -n:command-line-setup
-a:1 -f:s16_le,2,44100 -i:JC-In_A_Landscape.wav
-a:2 -f:s16_le,2,44100 -i:JC-She_Is_Asleep.wav
-a:3 -f:s16_le,2,44100 -i:JC-2_Pastorales.wav

-a:1,2,3 -f:s16_le,2,44100 -o:alsa,0,0,0

-a:1 -ef3:1000.00,1.00,1.00 -kos:1.00,100.00,3000.00,0.00,0.00
-a:2 -efl:500.00 -km:1.00,500.00,1500.00,2.00,0.00
-a:3 -etr:100.00,0.00,65.00 -km:1.00,100.00,500.00,7.00,0.00

Note that '-kx -km:4,0,6,0,0' has disappeared from a:1. What's up with
that ? Also, what is the correct syntax for the loop mechanism ? The man
page states '-tl' but that produces an error. '-t:l' seems acceptable but
does nothing.

Another question: MP3 playback is all wrong, but I suspect I'm the one
who's all wrong. The files play at double speed (or more), with the
resulting pitch shift. What am I missing there ?

Mod files play and process fine, as do WAVs.

Kai, ecasound is really impressive. I hope you're encouraged to continue
maintaining it, I'm looking forward to how it might develop. Btw, I like
the Qt interface in X, it's very handy. I've also compiled and run
ecawave, but I haven't had much time to get into it.

Thanks for your help, Kai. The MIDI input works fine now: the setup
above processes three recordings of John Cage's music, the results are
rather beautiful (and appropriate to Cage's aesthetics, I like to think
;)...

Best regards,

== Dave Phillips
