Yeah, I checked both of those... that's why I'm really scratching my head...

/usr/local/lib is in ld.so.conf.

'ldconfig -v |grep eca ' gives me:
libqtecasound.so.0 => libqtecasound.so.0.0.0
libecasound.so.5 => libecasound.so.5.0.0
libecasound.so.4 => libecasound.so.4.0.0

<shrug> Any other ideas?
