You mean that ecasound would feed the player that is it's input? I think
that could be made to work, if I'm right in assuming that all frames are
of equal size.
 
Ecasound would check the mp3's header to see the size of frames.
read_samples() would keep book (is that English?) about which frame was
being read, and feed the next when necessary. If rew/ff isn't very
time-critical (could be done on frame boundaries), this would even remove
the need to restart mpg123 when rew/ff'ing.
