We discussed this off-list, and after a few tries ended up
with this:

ecasound \
      -f:32,4,44100 \
      -a:in -i:sq-test-tones.m4a -el:hilbert_stereo_200taps -el:sq_decoder_shadow_vector -o:loop,in \
      -a:1,2 -i:loop,in \
      -a:2 -chmove:4,2 -chmove:3,1 \
      -f:16,2,44100 \
      -a:1 -o front.wav \
      -a:2 -o back.wav

In particular, since one of the plugins outputs a
four-channel signal, the channel width has to be
set with -f before the loop device "loop,in" is created.
