Your problem appears to be the decoder/encoder. MP3 is handled externaly. I
didn't read ALL of the output. But you might check if you have mpg123 and
lame. You can configer your decoder and encoder in
/usr/local/share/ecasound/ecasoundrc or just /usr/share/ecasound/ecasoundrc .
Or decode and re-encode your file by yourself. You can use other utilities
to do that:
mplaer -ao pcm:file=in.wav 05-slow_hands.mp3
ecasound -i in.wav -etf:3 -o out.wav
but beware: if your input is truly a mono file, you must specify different
channel counts like this:
ecasound -f:16,1,44100 -i in.wav -f:16,2,44100 -etf:3 -o out.wav
