hmm, for some reason the ecasound process get a signal right at the start.
Could you try the following:
ecasignalview somefile.wav rtnull
... it should play through the file and see the meter bars. If that fails
as well, try:
ecasound -i somefile.wav -o rtnull -ev
.. and report back how that works.
