no, not needed. When position is less or equal to the first defined
envelope point, the envelope starting value is used. Similarly at the
end, for any position greater or equal to the last envelope point,
the envelope ending value is provided.

So e.g. for a fade-out, the envelope will mute everything after the last
defined -klg position.
