[ecasound] state of pyeca .. r ppl using subprocess.py instead?

have just started learn ecasound .. i knew the existence of it .. but
was afraid of it ;D
am a python@email-addr-hidden user so ithought pyeca is gonna help me a lot
but

import pyeca

gives me

/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/ecacontrol.py:11:
DeprecationWarning: The popen2 module is deprecated.

yes i also learned recently that lots of py things are being replaced
to subprocess.py
then eca-pythonists' trend is to control ecasound directly via
subprocess insted of pyeca?
any good site for some examples of doing that way?

tnx
