hmm, here's one potentially easier fix/workaround. Add this to your
~/.ecasound/ecasoundrc:
--cut--
ext-cmd-mp3-output = lame -b %B -s %S -r --little-endian -S - %f
--cut--
Works at least with 2.6.0 and lame-3.98.2.
