this is now finally fixed in CVS.

I know I promised to get the fix for this first to 2.4.4, and then to
2.4.5... and now it's finally going to be fixed in 2.4.6. With the current
release speed, this two year delay from report to a fix is not exactly
something to be pleased with. But thanks Adam for being persistent with
this.

Note to others on the list: feel free to keep resending bug reports if
problems go unresolved. It makes it more likely that someone will look at
the bug.
