Thank you for your answer. I would simply suggest not to
inhibit the deamon mode to run in conjunction with
the interactive mode i.e. to allow the user to enter both
--daemon and -c one the command line but to allow
--daemon -C as well.

Personally I wrote a little client in emacs-lisp for the
ecasound server and use it this way since I am blind
and may so use the audio feedback in emacs with
emacspeak or something like that. I can as well use
the consol application with a braille display but without
this it might be convenient to have a solution uniquely
based on the emacs client. However it's not really
a problem that one consol is no longer available.
