yes, after cd libglade and configure and make and make install the gui came up. It was edit-> preferences
whehe the program WENT out. There is no backtrace.
No messages appear. No seg fault notice. No exceptions.

This is SuSE 9.0 with some suse patch rpm's to gnome and kde.
