My guess was right, adding "-G:jack,foo,notransport" solves the problem.
The root of the cause was the new default transport mode. As
ecasound 2.3.0 does not support 0.75.0's transport interface, it never
receives (or is able to send) the 'play' event.
Anyway, I'll put a fix to CVS so that 2.3.1 will work with 0.75.0 (and
other older JACK releases) even without the 'notransport' trick.
