Hi,

while debugging build problems and misc things, I tracked it down to
the following typo.

There are other problems with the build, but "./configure --disable-shared"
seems to allow the build to go through to the end.
libtool 1.5 seems to be acting weird.
BTW, -static isn't equivalent to -static,
I think -all-static is the option for libtool that should be used ?
