Subject: Mono/stereo -problem with DirectSound AC97

I have an integrated soundcard "DirectSound AC97 Audio" on my motherboard,
and today I tried to use it for recording from a stereo tape through the
microphone channel to my computer as follows:

ecasound -c -a:1,2 -i:alsahw,0,0 \
   -a:1 -f:16,1,44100 -o:left.wav -erc:1,1 \
   -a:2 -f:16,1,44100 -o:right.wav -erc:2,1

The result: To _both_ files, left.wav and right.wav goes exactly same,
MONO recording which even is an _unbalanced combination of both tape
channels_, instead of the tape stereo channels left and right (to their
own files). Is this due to improper use of ecasound (v2.2.0-pre5) or is my
soundcard such crap that it only has monoural microphone channel?
I have also tested that if the command is the very same, but instead of
microphone channel I rather record from my CD-ROM, then the output is
correct stereo channels in left.wav and right.wav!

(I am sorry if this is misposted, as it may not directly have an impact on
ecasound program, but rather certain hardware.)
