ecs in background mode

Hello all,

I notice a strange thing:
Ecasound cannot be run in background here:
(cvs version), even with -C -q or even with >&/dev/null
(the FreeBSD syntax).
Note: I run the excellent screen software

Please tell me if i forgot something, or send me a pointer for a better
investigation.
