Ecasound 2.1dev8 was released a few days ago. It's the latest development
release in the 2.1dev series (eventually leading to the next stable
release, 2.2.0). You can get it at:

http://ecasound.seul.org/download/ecasound-2.1dev8.tar.gz

2.1dev8 is the first ecasound release with full JACK-support. In other
words there are no drawbacks or loss of functionality in using JACK
instead of ALSA or OSS. The last missing feature support for querying JACK
port latencies. This is now implemented and tested.

Only known bug/feature in the current JACK plugin is that with small
buffersizes ecasound's disk i/o subsystem (disk butler for you ardour
users ;)) sometimes fails to keep up with the rt-engine (ie. process()
callbacks). This doesn't happen with ALSA or OSS, which is odd.
Investigating this issue is next on my todo-list (as well as adding
support for transport control; I've already done some work on this).

To enable JACK-support, you still need to specify "--with-jack=/prefix' to
ecasound's configure script. This, too, will change before 2.2.0 (.. JACK
automatically enabled if correct headers and libs are found).

Btw; 2.1dev8 also contains various compatibility fixes for Solaris,
so it should be possible to use ecasound in testing the
     upcoming Solaris JACK driver.
