no I'd rather have it compiled into the binary. I had the ld_preload
thing going on for a while with alsa-oss, it became quite annoying and had
the unwanted side-effect that every time I tried to install alsa-lib no
commands would work after it deleted it (alsa-oss needed it)

plus if you try to use it with something that had used another memory lib
(like dmalloc or electricfence) you lose bigtime with strange segmentation
faults.
