Hi Maik,

I think most cards based on the envy24 chip are worth recommending. (many
M-audio cards for instance, delta-44, delta-66, audiophile, there are lots of
manufacturers, several which are cheaper than m-audio). Envy24 has very good
driver support in alsa atleast.

I've personally used delta-44's and RME-hammerfalls(not alot) with ecasound,
works splendidly.

As for the correct forum for this question you should have a look at
www.linuxaudiodev.com. There is, among other things, a mailinglist,
linux-audio-user (and linux-audio-dev) hosted there that fits your bill perfectly.
