Well, how about the good old:
- lowpass
- bandpass (you can break it into several small bandpass)
- highpass

Then you give control to your user of how much each chain is
amplified... You get a traditional graphic EQ that way...

There's basically no limit to what you can offer, it really depends upon what
you want to provide the users with.
