A few questions about using ecasound with alsa.
My machine: p200mmx, 96mb ram, 3.2 gb eide UDMA66 approx 10ms, awe32,
redhat 6.2, alsa 5.8.
When using alsa's oss emulation I am able to play 11 mono tracks simultaneous
if I run in init 3 ie without x loaded (running super-user, with -b:512 and
-r). There is some disk thrashing as it starts paging swap. This almost the
same performance as I would get in windows. However if I use alsa's native
audio system I get serious timing problem and struggle to play more than a
couple of tracks.
Is this an inherant problem with alsa or is it because ecasound is still in
early stages of alsa support? Or have I just misconfigured in some way.?
I'm very impressed with ecasound. Is there any progress being made with the
gtk interface port?
