Doh. ;) Fortunately I think I found out what is causing this behaviour. It
seems that if strict aliasing is enabled in 2.95.*, you'll run into
trouble. So as a quick fix, remove "-funroll-loops -fstrict-aliasing" from
configure.in (CXXFLAGS, line 56), and run 'make'. If this fails, try a
clean build (make distclean ; ./configure ; make).

All you who have reported problems recently (Jon Guerin, S. Massy, et al),
please report if this fix works for you.
