Greetings,

I am playing stereo and mono mp3 files, and trying to get reasonable pan
effects:

Here are three chain definitions that I pass to ecasound for a stereo
mp3 file (with a Perl script):

1.  -a:0 -f:16,2,44100 -i TESTstereo.mp3 -ea:100 -a:0 -o /dev/dsp1
2.  -a:0 -f:16,1,44100 -i TESTstereo.mp3 -ea:100 -epp:100 -a:0 -o
/dev/dsp1
3.  -a:0 -f:16,1,44100 -i TESTstereo.mp3 -ea:100 -epp:0 -a:0 -o
/dev/dsp1

#1 plays the stereo file with no problems.  The instruments that I
orginally recorded have their original panning.
#2 results in nothing (i.e., no sound).
#3 plays the mp3 file at what appears to be half speed.

Now for the mono mp3 file:

4.  -a:0 -f:16,2,44100 -i TESTmono.mp3 -ea:100 -a:0 -o /dev/dsp1
5.  -a:0 -f:16,1,44100 -i TESTmono.mp3 -ea:100 -epp:0 -a:0 -o /dev/dsp1
6.  -a:0 -f:16,1,44100 -i TESTmono.mp3 -ea:100 -epp:100 -a:0 -o
/dev/dsp1

#4 plays the file at double speed (I guess I expected something weird)
#5 plays the mono file in center field (it should be hard left)
#6 results in no sound.

Another thing:  I (for some reason) subsequently put a -f:16,2,44100
option in the output part of the chain for #5 and #6, and everything for
#5 was in the left ear (I still heard nothing for #6).

Am I using the -epp command incorrectly?  How do I go about panning a
mono or stereo file?  Can I pick out the left or right channel of a
stereo file and then pan it left or right?

I'm still getting used to this whole thing, so please bear with me if
I'm missing something stupid.

Thanks,

Neil
