Support for professional soundcards in Linux is still rather limited.
Most companies making these cards don't want to release hardware
specifications. The situation, however, is changing. You may want
to take a look at OSS/commercial http://www.opensound.com and ALSA
drivers http://www.alsa-project.org ... All cards supported by these
drivers can be used with ecasound. For instance, Paul Barton-Davis
(author of Quasimodo, Softwerk and Hdrec) is writing drivers for
Hammerfall Digi-9652. This is a 26-channel (digital input/ouput,
3x ADAT, 24bit, 48000/96000Hz sound card! In other words, a real
pro-level card.
Also, ALSA project leader Jaroslav Kysela is writing drivers for
Envy24 (ICEnsemble ICE1712). This is a 12-input/10-output card.
So situation is changing.
