Good news everybody! I just got the first 1.6.x version to compile.
As I've optimized many of the core engine routines, I decided to do
some testing right away, and it seems seems that 1.6.x will be _much_
faster than previous versions. My idea has been to make mixing
routines smart, so that data is only copied when necessary...
For instance, if input is connected to only one chain, data is read
straight to the chain bypassing the input mix-routines. Unfortunately
the library changes are far from ready (qtecasound doens't compile,
etc.), so I can't release anything just yet.
Btw; There has been a lot of talk about audio software design on the
linux-audio-dev mailing list (well, most of the time we're
talking about the new Open-Plugin-Architecture that will bring
effect plugins a'la VST to Linux). One big difference between
ecasound and other Linux mixing/multrack apps is that ecasound's
audio streams are always stereo. Have you ever found this
"feature" restricting?
